Our 2020 International Conference, “Mental Health Care in Cultural Context,” is coming!
It will take place in Shanghai, China from the 29th to the 31st of May, 2020, with preconference workshops on the 28th of May.
The conference will be co-organized by WACP, the German-Chinese Academy of Psychotherapy (GCAP), and the Pudong Mental Health Centre, affiliated to Tongji University, under the leadership of Prof. Xudong Zhao.
WACP-sponsored plenary speakers include: Arthur Kleinman, Laurence Kirmayer, Kamaldeep Bhui, Roberto Lewis-Fernández, Sergio Villasenor Bayardo, and Xudong Zhao. Daniel Chen, a fellow Shanghainese, will be sponsored to present a symposium. From the GCAP, the plenary speakers include: Bruce Wampold, Ulrich Schnyder, and Kenneth Gergen (pending). Also, some of the most famous Chinese psychiatrists will be presenting.
All plenary lectures will have simultaneous English-Chinese (Mandarin) translation. The symposia and workshops will have consecutive translation into these languages. PowerPoint slides will be translated into both languages before the conference.
The venue is the Everbright Convention Center, where in total 1500 participants can be housed. See: http://everbright-convention-center-grand.theshanghaihotels.com/en/
Costs of hotel rooms will be between $80-110 US dollars per night. The conference will cost between $400-700 US dollars. Organizers are providing a reduction in fees for WACP members. CME accreditation will be provided. More information, including a website and a shared online folder, will follow soon from the Chinese organizers.
At this point we are requesting your input on two issues that are key to the success of the Conference:
Would you consider coming to the conference? If yes, we will ask for confirmation of your plans to attend in a few weeks.
Are you interested in proposing a symposium or a workshop? If so, please share your ideas on your topics. A committee of WACP will review the submissions and ask selected participants to represent WACP. While we are unable to offer travel support for participants, WACP will create a small fund to partially support a limited number of presenters from low- and middle-income countries.
Please respond by September 30, so that we can move forward in offering our symposia and workshops to the program committee in Shanghai.
